So I booted this up on my laptop, Firefox, nothing special, and the RPG Maker engine is doing that thing where it chugs during diagonal movement. Classic. You'd think by now someone would have patched the core scripts for better framerate pacing but no, we're still getting microstutters when Julia walks past a lantern. The dev clearly leaned into the default tile sets and didn't bother with any anti-aliasing passes, so the sprites have that crunchy pixel crawl when the camera pans. I actually respect that. It's a deliberate lack of polish that says "I spent my time on the scenes, not the walking."

And the scenes. Right. Julia's mask gimmick isn't just for show, it's a whole identity split that leads to some genuinely unhinged power dynamics. There's a moment early on where she's teasing another woman in the tavern, just light groping over clothes, and the dialogue tree lets you escalate it into a backroom threesome or pull back and leave the NPC frustrated. I went for the threesome, obviously, and the oral sex sequence is animated with this weird, jerky sprite swapping that somehow makes it hotter than if it were smooth. Like a flipbook you'd hide in a textbook. The creampie finish has a pixelated splatter effect that I stared at for way too long, wondering if they used a particle system or just a series of PNGs. I think it's PNGs. The vaginal sex scenes with the main rival character, the one with the red hair who's name I already forgot, have this odd rhythm where the sound effects don't quite sync with the visual thrusts. It's like a half-second delay and it drove me nuts until I realized it made the whole thing feel more desperate and clumsy, which fits the "double life" plot about making bad choices.

Then the graphic violence kicks in during a failed stealth section and suddenly you're looking at blood spatter on the same tile set where you were just getting a handjob. The tonal whiplash is insane. No content warning transition, just bam, knife, red pixels everywhere. The RPG Maker engine handles the gore with the same flat affect as the sex, which is honestly more disturbing than if they'd tried to make it cinematic. I wish the menu UI wasn't so stock though. That blue gradient window skin takes me right out of the moment every time I need to check Julia's corruption stat. Which I checked a lot. It goes up fast if you let the lesbian teasing scenes play out fully instead of skipping to the main event. There's one with a nun character that I replayed three times just to see if the dialogue branches actually changed anything. They don't. But the voice in my head while reading the text was doing a lot of heavy lifting, and that's what this engine is for, right? Letting your brain fill in the gaps the 2003 assets leave wide open.
