It’s janky. Gloriously, unapologetically janky. Space Paws wears its in-progress nature like a badge of honor, a half-finished hentai space opera that somehow got stuck on a single planet full of dog girls. Why dog girls? No reason given. You just wake up on a ship with a redhead who’s been given a “new and improved appearance,” which apparently means her tits are now a gravitational anomaly. The spritework is uneven, backgrounds flip between “actually decent cryo room” and “programmer art landing zone,” and the grammar corrections they mention in the changelog still leave dialogue that reads like a fever dream translated through three languages. I don’t hate it.
The pickup system. That’s where it gets weirdly compelling. Talk, Ask, Date, Give, Girlfriend. A whole interaction tree for Alison that ends with animated H-scenes using what they call a “new system of animation.” It’s not fluid, it’s more like keyframes having a seizure, but there’s a rawness to it. The sounds are… improved, they say. Wet squelches that don’t quite sync, but somehow that makes it dirtier. Roselyn’s route exists too, though she’s less fleshed out. There’s this bizarre password minigame. Why? Who knows. 45 day limit hangs over everything, then you can suddenly enter all rooms on the spaceship. Why not before? Nobody cares.
The market has a new character to “interact” with. Vague, but you know exactly what it means. Sprouts can’t be taken on the ship, not necessary yet. Whatever that implies. Two static scenes waiting for animation, Alison’s route longer now, you can actually date her, whatever dating means when the climax is a fully uncensored animated creampie scene with a redhead whose proportions defy shipboard gravity. This isn’t polished, it’s a patreon-fueled construction site where the scaffolding is part of the appeal. I laughed at the mute button addition, right there in the changelog like it’s a feature. The downloadable version exists for crashes. PC specs issue, probably.
Dare to play it with the sound on and see if you don’t instinctively reach for that mute button anyway.
