I got stuck on the text message minigame for like twenty minutes. Not because it was hard, just because I kept picking the worst possible replies on purpose. There's something deeply satisfying about watching the protagonist fumble a confession so badly that his crush just stares at him with this blank expression. The writing in these dialogue trees doesn't judge you for being a disaster. It almost encourages it.

The whole thing starts with rejection. Brutal, public, the kind that makes you wince. Then this girl from way back, Mochi or something, she just bounces into frame with energy that should be annoying but somehow isn't. Her character sprite has these ridiculous expressions and the artist clearly had fun with the jiggle physics. Not subtle at all. Every time she leans forward I found myself staring. The game knows what it's doing with those big tits and the 2D art style makes them feel bouncy in a way that 3D sometimes misses. There's a scene in a cafe where she's explaining some nonsense about love lessons and I completely missed the dialogue because her top was doing this thing. Had to replay it. Worth it.

The romance system is weirdly stressful for something so simple. You're supposed to be working up courage to confess again but the game keeps throwing these detours at you. Other girls, bad decisions, moments where you pick a dialogue option and immediately regret it. I wish there was a way to see what you picked last time without restarting but that's never getting patched in. The dating mechanics are basic, just choices and consequences, but the writing makes them feel heavier than they should. One wrong click and suddenly you're on a date with someone you didn't plan for and the protagonist is just as confused as you are. The male protagonist isn't some blank slate either, he's got this specific pathetic energy that I found way too relatable. There's a moment where he practices confessions in a mirror and I had to put my phone down. Not because it was bad. Because it was too real. The whole anthology thing means this is standalone, you don't need the other Heart City episodes, but now I'm curious about what else happens in this city. The artsy backdrop is just window dressing for people being messy and horny and bad at feelings. Which is exactly what I wanted.
