The first scare got me. Not gonna lie. I was clicking away, building up my nerve meter or whatever, and then this pixel succubus just pops up, all big eyes and that look. My hand actually twitched on the mouse. Girl Scare is a Pico-8 thing, so it looks like a lost Game Boy Color game your parents definitely wouldn't buy you. The whole point is to not get scared, which sounds dumb when I type it out. You click to build courage, but if you're too slow, the girl appears and, well, scares you. And if she scares you enough, you lose. Or win? Depends on your perspective.
The lewd stuff is tied directly to failing. You don't get a nice scene for doing well. You get a flash of hentai pixel art for messing up. It's a weird incentive. I found myself hesitating on purpose just to see what the next girl's scare animation would be. The succubus has this little hip sway right before the screen flashes. It's crude, like 128x128 pixels crude, but that limitation makes it hotter somehow. Your brain fills in the gaps. I upgraded my speed a few times, which is a mistake because then the scares happen less. The minigame loop is basically a clicker where you're managing a bar that drains, and you buy upgrades between rounds with points from how long you lasted. I wish there was a gallery mode. Once you see a girl's scare, it's gone unless you fail again at the right moment. I spent ten minutes trying to get the third girl to reappear because I blinked the first time.
The fantasy setting is just a backdrop. You're in a dark forest, there's a shop with a shady merchant, the girls are monsters. It's all very Castlevania if Castlevania was just a horny jump-scare simulator. The music is that classic Pico-8 bloop-bloop that gets under your skin. I had it on while scrolling Twitter and forgot to close the tab, and my roommate definitely heard the little shriek sound effect when I tabbed back and immediately got jumpscared by a magic circle. Didn't explain that one. The whole thing is free and runs in a browser, so the barrier is zero. Just don't expect a deep game. It's a five-minute curiosity that somehow had me restarting three times to unlock all the girls. The last one is a pain. Her timing is brutal.
