The pixel art does this thing where the mermaid's scales catch light that shouldn't exist, a shimmer that bleeds past the game window somehow. I caught myself touching my monitor. Not proud of that moment but there it is, the whole vacation setup feels like a trap from the first screen and you know it but you click anyway because something in the water has already decided for you.

The fishing minigame is basically foreplay with extra steps. You're sitting there, rod in hand, and the line tugs and you think it's a fish but the screen does this slow pulse thing and suddenly you're not fishing anymore, you're being fished. The psychological horror tag isn't lying, it creeps in through the gaps between dialogue choices. One villager tells you she's a goddess who blesses the nets, next one spits and says she drowned his brother and the way the text stutters when you ask follow up questions, like the game itself doesn't want you digging too deep. The sex scenes, when they finally happen, aren't even the hottest part. That's the weird thing. They're rendered in this almost clinical pixel style while the buildup, the dreams, the way the screen distorts when you stare at the ocean too long, that's where the real heat lives. Your character wakes up sticky and the game doesn't explain if it was a dream or if she was actually there and that ambiguity does more for me than any explicit animation could.

Sound design is just ocean ambience and this low frequency hum that I thought was my fridge dying until I closed the tab and it stopped. The mystery itself is thin, you'll see the twist coming from a mile away if you've read any mythology at all, but the way it's delivered, the slow corruption of your vacation photos in the gallery as you progress, that's the good stuff. The mermaid's design changes subtly depending on which villager you believe and I still don't know which version was real or if any of them were. Dare to play it alone, or invite company?
