That supermarket scene. The one where you first meet the older woman with the tired eyes and the too-tight uniform. She's stocking shelves when the fog hits, and something about the way the fluorescent lights flicker makes her look different. Wrong. The animation isn't smooth, it's that jerky 3DCG where limbs move like they're underwater, but somehow that makes it worse. Better. You know what I mean? The uncanny valley thing working in its favor.
The handjob behind the deli counter caught me off guard. Not because it's explicit, which it is, but because of how she keeps glancing at the emergency exit while doing it. Like she's calculating something. The sound design is mostly ambient hum and distant screams, but during that scene there's this wet, rhythmic noise that loops badly. Really badly. Like someone recorded it once and just hit paste seventeen times. Drove me nuts. But I also couldn't stop replaying it, trying to figure out if her expression changes depending on earlier choices. It does, I think. Or maybe I imagined it.
The corruption path is where things get genuinely uncomfortable. Not in a sexy way. Well, sometimes in a sexy way, but mostly in that horror way where you're watching the male protagonist become something awful and you're the one making him do it. There's this moment with a younger woman, a fellow survivor, where the domination mechanic kicks in and the game asks you to decide how far to push things. The oral sex scene that follows is animated with the same janky quality as everything else, but the voice acting, god, the voice acting. She whimpers. Actually, there isn't voice acting. I'm thinking of a different game. The text descriptions are what sell it though. Brutal and clinical at the same time. The travel segments between locations feel pointless until they suddenly aren't, and the prostitution subplot with the gas station attendant made me feel like I needed a shower. Which I guess is the point. The violence tag isn't kidding around either. There's a scene involving a crowbar that I won't forget. Not because it's gory, but because of how casual it feels after everything else you've done.
