I don't know what I expected from a cyberpunk detective story but getting my dick sucked by a grieving widow while her dead husband's neural implant logs sat unread on my desk wasn't it. The game opens with this washed up detective, the kind who drinks too much and cares too little, except he does care, that's the whole problem. His wife died or something, the details are fuzzy because I was distracted by the way the first suspect's shirt kept catching the neon light from the window. The animation is rough, deliberately so maybe, like someone took a decent render and dragged it through a puddle of synthwave aesthetic and cigarette ash.
The investigation mechanics are... there. You click on things, you talk to people, sometimes you find clues. I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out if I missed a piece of evidence in the victim's apartment only to realize the game wanted me to go back and talk to the neighbor again. The neighbor, by the way, is this milf type who offers you coffee and then offers you... not coffee. The oral scene came out of nowhere, I literally clicked on "ask about the deceased" and suddenly her head's in my lap. Not complaining exactly but the tonal whiplash gave me vertigo. One minute you're examining a corpse with graphic violence marks on his neck where someone ripped out his implant, the next you're getting a handjob from a woman who might be the killer. The game doesn't seem to know if it wants to be Blade Runner or a porn parody of Blade Runner.
The romance paths are weirdly compelling though. There's this one character, the dead guy's wife I mentioned, and her scenes have this desperate quality that made me forget I was supposed to be solving a mystery. The vaginal sex animation looped three times before I realized I hadn't clicked to advance the dialogue. The dystopian setting does some heavy lifting, the idea that people rent out their bodies to AI while their minds vacation in virtual reality is genuinely creepy, but then the game will cut to a teasing scene with someone's tits out and all that worldbuilding just evaporates. I still don't know who the killer is. I should probably finish the investigation but the detective's apartment has this mirror where... nevermind.
