The badger's paws are shaking and it's not from the cold mist rolling through Rannai. Hector comes back after nine years and everything's wrong. The wolves who used to run wild with him, especially Cadgan, that little shit who always got them in trouble, now he's this huge wall of muscle and silence. Won't even look at me properly. But I keep catching him watching when he thinks I'm busy grinding herbs at the clinic.
The game doesn't look like much, graphics are kinda rough around the edges, but fuck if it doesn't nail that tension. You're this healer, right, and the whole town's gone to hell under some new duke, but the real story is in those moments where Cadgan's standing too close while you're examining some injury he won't explain. The dialogue choices let you push or pull back, and pushing gets you these scenes where you're basically feeling up a wolf who could snap you in half but just... lets it happen. There's this one part in the forest east of town where the roots literally move under your feet and Cadgan pins you against a tree, not even doing anything yet, just breathing, and I swear I forgot how to click the mouse.
Wish there was more actual follow through earlier on. The teasing is brutal. You get these flashes of what Cadgan used to be, that troublemaker kid, and then he shuts down again. The voyeurism stuff sneaks up on you too, catching glimpses through windows, the big ass on display when he's chopping wood, and the game knows exactly what it's doing making you wait. The furry aspect is handled well, not just humans with ears slapped on, actual animalistic body language that makes the groping scenes feel more charged somehow. Romance is there but it's buried under so much cold shoulder treatment you start wondering if you're imagining the whole thing. Then he'll say something in that low voice and nope, definitely not imagining it.
