boss keeps messaging about quarterly reports so obviously i opened broken harbours instead. it's one of those visual novel things, you know the type, but this one is about rune and devon. two guys. furry. and honestly the art style is kind of rough? like deliberately sketchy almost, which i thought would bug me but somehow it fits the whole melancholy vibe they're going for. devon's this big quiet type with baggage and rune is... i don't know, persistent. there's this scene early on where they're just sitting on a dock and the dialogue is so fucking awkward in a real way, not in a bad writing way. you know when you meet someone and you want to say something meaningful but all that comes out is something about the weather? that.
the sex stuff takes a while to get to which normally i'd complain about because let's be real i'm not here for the plot. but when it hits, it hits. there's this one scene where devon finally lets his guard down and the way the game handles the intimacy is surprisingly tender for something that also shows a creampie in explicit detail. the oral scenes are hot too, lots of focus on expressions which the sketchy art actually enhances somehow. makes it feel more raw. less polished porn, more like someone's actual memory of a hookup.
wish there were more choices that actually mattered though. you get these dialogue options sometimes but they mostly just change the next line or two, not the overall arc. for a game tagged romance i wanted more branching, more ways to fuck things up or make them better. replayability is kind of low unless you just want to rewatch the sex scenes which, fair enough, i did that twice. also the music loops weirdly in one part, cuts off mid note and starts over, took me right out of the moment when devon was finally opening up about his past. small thing but annoying.
anyway if they ever make a dlc or sequel with actual branching paths and maybe some more explicit anal scenes because the one we get is good but i'm greedy, that'd be something. back to spreadsheets i guess.
