The voice acting catches you off guard first. Not in a "wow this is professional" way but more like someone actually trying, you know? Sherine's VA has this breathy quality when she's nervous that feels almost too real. The game looks deliberately rough around the edges, like it's not trying to hide what it is. A spy thriller where you're supposed to seduce information out of people but the animations are kinda janky and sometimes characters clip through furniture. I don't know why that makes it better.
The corruption stuff sneaks up. You start as this capable CIA agent, right? Sharp, professional. Then there's this scene at a party where you have to let some oil executive grope you under the table while maintaining conversation with his wife across the dinner table. The game doesn't make it sexy exactly. It makes it tense. Your choices during that sequence actually matter for later, which I wasn't expecting from something that looks like this. The spy software installation mechanic is just clicking things in the right order but somehow the pressure works because the voice acting sells the danger.
I forgot to mention the Russian oligarch's voice is terrible. Like genuinely bad. But it loops back around to being charming? No that's not right. It's bad. But the female characters are voiced well enough that you stop noticing. The teasing scenes where Sherine is in control versus when she's losing control, the animation quality shifts noticeably. When she's confident the movements are smoother. Probably not intentional but it creates this weird feedback loop where you can feel her slipping. The oil business plot is whatever, I kept forgetting why I was infiltrating anything. But the moment to moment decisions, the way corruption isn't just a meter filling up but actual choices you make that feel bad later, that stuck with me.
